keeping places have been looking beyond the walls of their institution for
inspiration, for partnerships, for common ground. As facilities converge into
cultural centres and as commercial interests and business partnerships become
involved, we need to explore the role of museums “beyond the walls”
in their social, cultural, natural and economic environments. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

lang=EN-AU style='font-size:12.0pt'>The MAWA 2008 Conference in Bunbury
provides an opportunity to discuss, debate, dissect, display and otherwise
stimulate enthusiasm and encourage communities, collections and heritage
organisations to look ‘beyond the walls’. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

there are a large variety of heritage and museum collections, public art and
tourism sites, each using a range of interpretation tools to convey their particular
story and identity. The conference provides opportunities to hear and see more
about places like these and to explore the interconnectivity with the more
traditional idea of a museum. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
