<B><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">BUILDING BLOCKS Conference</SPAN></B> will
feature two international keynote speakers, Sandra Daniel from
<st1:country-region w:st="on">South Africa</st1:country-region> and Karl
Johnstone from <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">New
Zealand</st1:country-region></st1:place>. Both are sure to be inspiring
presenters and will give delegates a taste of interpretation from other parts of
the world.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P><STRONG><B><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Sandra
Daniels</SPAN></FONT></B></STRONG><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> works at <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Robben</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Island</st1:PlaceType>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Museum</st1:PlaceType> near <st1:City
w:st="on">Cape Town</st1:City> in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region
w:st="on">South Africa</st1:country-region></st1:place> as the Camps
Officer in the Education Team. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Robben</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Island</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> is infamous as the place Mandela,
and Sandra's father, were incarcerated. Sandra has developed the Knowledge Hunt
as a learning tool and has developed exhibitions. Sandra is a youth education
activist who has worked in the field of youth development since the late 1980s.
Her work has exposed her to fields as varied as teenage sexuality, conflict
resolution and lately heritage studies. She has been a founder member/co-founder
member of a variety of youth forums such as the Lobby Group for Youth formed in
1996 to lobby against the 2004 South African Olympic bid.

<P><STRONG><B><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Karl
Johnstone</SPAN></FONT></B></STRONG><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> is of Maori, Norwegian and Scottish
descent. His Maori whakapapa(genealogy) stems from the East of the North Island
of New Zealand. Karl has worked in the arts and culture sector all his life
including managing the interpretation team at <st1:country-region w:st="on">New
Zealand</st1:country-region>'s <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">National</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Museum</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> - Te Papa - for approximately four
years. Karl subsequently managed the Bicultural Development Team at Te Papa. He
has been involved in the development of a number of cultural centres and
projects also. Following the international success of Whale Rider, Karl has been
engaged in the concept development for a cultural centre based in Whanagara, the
location for the Whale Rider movie, and the home of Paikea - the infamous whale
riding ancestor. Karl is currently Head of Department, Maori and Indigenous
Development at Waiariki Institute of Technology, based in
Rotorua.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
