Hi there, The presentation itself asks questions mostly... in many ways it is the dialogue that arises from that, that offers useful insights. Admittedly, I am very interested in hearing the issues, challenges and successes people have had in making collection information (descriptions and multimedia) up online. If people want to share them openly via CAN-talk or the blog or engage us here at CAN discretely, we are interested in talking these through. In the Museums Australia conference session some constructive debate ensued about the perceived risks of putting collection information online in a world of interested and surfing searchers and researchers, twittering and perhaps visitors to collecting organisations, who want to revisit by looking at images, requesting loans, or making mashups. I had some great chats* with people outside of those sessions. Some snippets for those interested are posted up on the CAN Outreach blog. How can museums present their collections online in ways that can be resourced and sustained at a local level? Collections Australia Network national project manager Ingrid Mason presented this paper at the Museums Australia conference to discuss how galleries, libraries, archives and libraries can bring their collections to life online and engage new audiences. Ingrid's powerpoint presentation is now available on the collectionaustralia Slideshare channel.
