The NSW Branch of the Australian Society of Archivists ran a seminar
Standards, Software, and Strategies - A & D in Action that I had the
pleasure to attend and listen to some leading lights talking about
information standards and how they make the most of the software they
use.  The seminar prompted me to reflect upon the merits of collection
level description to provide access across the collecting sector.  To
