Dear CAN members,

I've received notice on a new publication from the US titled, 'Conservation
Treatment Methodology', see below.

I'm seeking feedback on whether this publication is similar to or better
than (or totally different to) reCollections Caring for Collections Across
Australia (published by Heritage Collections Council). Or if there's
another similar and more recent Australian publication that addresses
conservation treatment methodology.

Regards,

Brenda O’Connor

Dear Colleagues,

I am happy to announce the publication of my new book, Conservation
Treatment Methodology (Elsevier, 2007), which was written both for
conservators who carry out treatments and for curators and other custodians
who partner in treatment decisions.

The book is a practical guide to decision-making for conservation
treatments of all kinds of cultural material and describes systematic ways
to address the difficult issues of use, meaning, and values. Because these
issues relate to the custodial institution, not to the technical aspects of
conservation, the book establishes a common ground on which conservators
and custodians can work together.

As a result, the methodology is as relevant to non-fine-art settings like
historic preservation, archives, libraries, scientific collections,
anthropological and archaeological collections, as it is to art
collections.

I hope that Conservation Treatment Methodology proves helpful in your work.
It is available at Amazon.com and at

Comments from the profession:

"This is an enormous contribution to the conservation field. The content is
insightful and practical. The book should be read, owned and used as
reference by everyone who owns or takes care of art objects."
Virginia Naude, Sculpture conservator, Philadelphia

"This book is unique in its overarching, multidisciplinary approach. The
writing is not only clear, but entertaining and engaging."
