The system that Nat Gorman refers to is a combination of the re-development of the NZMuseums website (presently www.nzmuseums.co.nz and managed by National Services Te Paerangi at Te Papa) and eHive, which is a new initiative being built by Vernon Systems Ltd, already known for their Vernon CMS. NZMuseums will still stand alone as a website of and for New Zealand museums, and simultaneously will exist as a community 'inside' eHive. eHive is being created to enable museums and collectors globally to use it as an online CMS, as well as create communities of like subject matter. Because of this, Australian museums will definitely be able to use eHive as an online CMS. NZMuseums will showcase the collections (and other information) of New Zealand museums, as well as including web 2.0 features (tags, blog, etc) but museums do not have to use the site as a CMS. Those museums that are not using it as a CMS will simply have less object information available online (up to 100 items approx). To use it as a CMS, a licence to store information will have to be purchased. The new NZMuseums website goes live on 31 August 2008.
