reCollections: Journal of the National Museum of Australia is an independent, peer-reviewed academic journal, published online and in print twice a year (see http://recollections.nma.gov.au/). The aim of the journal is to promote research into, and stimulate awareness and discussion of, issues relating to museums and collections. Articles relate specifically to Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, or confront issues that are broadly relevant to museums or material history. In the Vol. 3 No. 1 (March 2008) issue of reCollections: Journal of the National Museum of Australia: 1. Cherie McKeich examines Museum Victoria's collection of economic botany products collected by TN Mukharji in the late 1880s, 2. Louise Douglas explores the challenges colonial organisers faced in negotiating colonial identities through displays at international exhibitions, and 3. Paul Arthur surveys the digital history field and its increasing relevance to museum practice. This issue also features a commentary piece by David Kaus on managing restricted Aboriginal objects at the National Museum of Australia, and a number of reviews of recent exhibitions and museum-related books. The editors welcome contributions relating to the role of museums in society, museum practice, and the history, collection, interpretation and display of museum collections.
