Hi Bronwyn, all,

We have a very successful free film program at the NGV, and show
everything from docos to feature films. There are lots of good websites
that you can buy DVDs that aren't released in Australia yet eg.
http://www.moviesunlimited.com/musite/default.asp - just make sure you
have a DVD player that can screen the international regions. Join the
International Movie Database (www.imdb.com <http://www.imdb.com/> -
about $15 / month) for lots of good information on films and docos, and
contacts for screening rights.

You normally need to contact the distributor for the rights. Often this
is a round-about process! Normally the rights are around $250 for a
feature film. This is for free screenings though. I understand it is
quite a different matter to charge for screenings. Contact Roadshow as
they have the rights in Australia for many feature films. I will send
you a follow up email with my contact there.

Some other good sources I have found:

http://www.nfsa.afc.gov.au/

http://www.amalgamatedmovies.com/

Best wishes,

Emma

Subject: [can-talk] Hire of current release movies

Hi All,

While I realise this isn't strictly a museum-y question I'm hoping
someone can give me some help.

One of the fundraising suggestions that has recently come up in
discussions for the museum is doing outdoor movies during summer.
Someone suggested looking into the hire of movies that aren't on DVD yet
- new releases or ones that have just finished in the cinemas. I've
tried doing various google searches to see where and how I can go about
getting such movies and the potential hire price, but can't find
anything.

Before I move further on this suggestion i really need more information
- can any one help? have you done something similar, do you know how
much it costs and who to hire them from?

Thanks,

Bronwyn
