I'd also be interested in this information. The Town Hall which is part of
our gallery building is to be refurbished / redeveloped. The buildings are
late 1930s with some good country Art Deco features.

Subject: [can-talk] purpose built museums/galleries in heritage
precinctsdeveloped by local government

Hello all,

I am looking for examples of purpose built galleries and museums in
redevelopments of significant heritage precincts for mixed commercial
use by local governments. I am interested in finding out about
Australian examples, but also international.

The Town of Claremont is in the process of planning for redevelopment of
a significant heritage precinct around the Claremont Railway Station
(built 1886). Claremont Museum would like to see a purpose built
museum/gallery/cultural centre incorporated into this planning, as well
as interpretation of the history of the site throughout the precinct. I
am doing some preliminary research into models for such developments -
and would appreciate any examples of purpose built museums and galleries
included in redevelopments of heritage precincts by local government.

Any examples - inspired and what to avoid - would be gratefully
received!

Many thanks,

Kate
