Sorry Philipa I can't help directly but I would like to reiterate that for the more 'mundane' queries regarding egg incubators and doilies(!), I personally find can-talk an invaluable resource for communicating with colleagues regarding comparative assessments of Australia's collections. My mystery object is about 50cm across and one suggestion is that it was an egg incubator. We have no idea of its history but have a dearth of information and objects pertaining to the long history of poultry farming in Australia so cannot be sure. Equipment maintenance staff at a major hospital tell me they don't believe it is medical in origin. Can anyone shed any light on this object?
