Good morning good people I suggest the publication 'Cataloging Cultural Objects: A Guide to Describing Cultural Works and Their Images' By Murtha Baca, Patricia Harpring, Elisa Lanzi, Linda McRae & Ann Whiteside on behalf of the Visual Resources Association is worth a read. regards Nat Gorman ----------------- Registrar | Philatelic Group Australia Post t: + 61 3 9299 4570| e: nathaniel.gorman at auspost.com.au -----Original Message----- From: can-talk-bounces at collectionsaustralia.net [mailto:can-talk-bounces at collectionsaustralia.net] On Behalf Of Nicola Vance Sent: Monday, 4 February 2008 9:50 AM To: can-talk at collectionsaustralia.net Subject: [can-talk] re Software suggestions - Digital archive - Public art Dear Can Members and Collection Managers Brecknock Consulting is a national public art consultancy with offices based in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. We are involved in project management of public artworks for Councils, developers, State government, private corporations as well as the research and provision of arts and cultural policy. We are currently looking into affordable software options to update and archive our image (not collection) database - 6,500+ images of artworks - currently stored on the hard drive. As we are not a collecting institution, our needs for database software are relatively straight forward and revolve around providing a flexible range of search options & fields, easy functionality, fast image tracking ability, clear digital resolution, editorial input and some web interface ability. I have been looking at Filemaker Pro and Mosaic software and would appreciate some feedback from anyone currently using these systems. How easy is data transfer? Is there an image limit? Recently I spoke with a Vernon consultant in NZ about the new E-hive system, currently in the pipeline to be launched in August, designed for small organisations with low budgets. Is anyone else thinking of implementing the Vernon E-hive software? I'd greatly appreciate any advice from small organisations for our digital asset management.
