Subject: Ministerial announcement re collections sector support package

Dear Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that the Minister for Culture and the Arts in
Western Australia has launched a package of support for the WA
collections sector. This represents a significant new chapter in terms
of the recognition of and support for the collections sector in this
state by Government.

The suite of programs outlined in the attached will be delivered by the
Department of Culture and the Arts in partnership with various key
organisations.

In the context of this announcement the 'collections sector' refers
broadly to the collections contained in museums, galleries, archives,
Indigenous language centres and Indigenous Art Centres.

It includes a commitment to support the Collections Council of Australia
to proceed with the Regional Hubs pilots proposed in the Collections
Care Strategy and grant monies which will support new developmental
initiatives in the collections sector. For more details check the
Department of Culture and the Arts website at www.dca.wa.gov.au and go
to the initiatives section.

Please circulate this information as widely as possible through your
respective networks to help ensure your colleagues are informed about
these important new opportunities. For example, I understand the WA
Museum convenes a gathering of local government officers who work with
collections.

I am also circulating this message to people working in other states, to
promote awareness about what's happening in Western Australia and I
welcome information about comparable programs in those states.

Regards

Roz
