reCollections: Journal of the National Museum of Australia is an
independent, peer-reviewed academic journal, published online and in
print twice a year (see http://recollections.nma.gov.au/). The aim of
the journal is to promote research into, and stimulate awareness and
discussion of, issues relating to museums and collections. Articles
relate specifically to Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, or
confront issues that are broadly relevant to museums or material
history.
In the Vol. 2 No. 2 (September 2007) issue of reCollections: Journal of
the National Museum of Australia:
1. Alexandra Sauvage explores the origins and historical context of
Paris's new ethnological museum, the Musée de quai Branly
2. Geoffrey Gray focuses on shifts in perceived ownership of the Sydney
University ethnographic collection
3. Belinda Nemec traces Percy Grainger's quest for immortality through
the endowment of his museum at the University of Melbourne, and
4. Ian McShane analyses aspects of the National Museum of Australia's
institutional history in the context of wider developments in cultural
and heritage policy.
This issue also features a commentary piece by Philip Jones inspired by
his work on the South Australian Museum exhibition on Afghan cameleers
in Australia, and a number of reviews of recent exhibitions and
museum-related books by Australian and international contributors.
The editors welcome contributions relating to the role of museums in
society, museum practice, and the history, collection, interpretation
and display of museum collections. You can contact the journal on (02)
