Dear colleagues Could you please circulate this notice to your members? Registration is now open for the 2007 Australia ICOMOS National Conference, Cairns, Far North Queensland July 19-21 : eXtreme heritage: managing heritage in the face of climatic extremes, natural disasters and military conflicts in tropical, desert, polar and off-world landscapes. Early bird registrations close June 15th!!! Early registration is advised especially if you want to take advantage of one of our fantastic post conference tours. These have been arranged at cost and include opportunities for an exclusive reef cruise which visits Cook town and Lizard Island and includes tours of the historic sites of both places; a fantastic trip to Chillagoe with visits to Aboriginal art sites and the historic industrial sites; guided tours of Cooktown and the Atherton Tableland, a post cyclone Larry tour of the Johnstone shire, and a walking tour of the historic sites of Cairns city. Numbers for all tours are limited so get in quick to secure your choice. All tours have been priced at cost only and include local specialists as guides. As our tours are priced at cost with no profit margin we require them to be fully subscribed to run them. All tours utilise local north Queensland experts who have donated their services as tour guides. July is the best time to visit Cairns as it is generally sunny, cool and dry and in the swimming season. Because of this however you should book early to secure the best accommodation deals. The preferred accommodation area is Trinity Beach and the best option is to organise a shared apartment as there are many great holiday apartments opposite or in walking distance to the beach. A number of places are offering discount to delegates. See our website www.aicomos.com <http://www.aicomos.com/> for more details. All information is on the conference website which is being progressively updated as more information comes to hand however if any one has any queries please feel free to contact me or our conference organisers. Our program includes: * A full day symposium on the Heritage Impacts of Climate Change (available as an optional extra event) * A public forum on the same topic to be held on the evening of the 19th in the historic Tanks Community Art Centre in the beautiful tropical setting of the Flecker Botanical Gardens. * 2 days of conference papers with sessions focussed on the major themes of the Conference with national and international speakers * A workshop on Heritage Risk Preparedness and Disaster Management * Launch of a heritage poster exhibition on the evening of the 20th July with a talk from the Queensland Heritage Council on their State-wide Heritage Study currently underway in Queensland. * A hungi with traditional dancing provided by the Cairns Cook Island Community. * The Conference dinner at Tjapukai Aboriginal Centre with the Tjapukai at night performance. We are looking forward to meeting up with you here in tropical north Queensland!
