2007 JOHN FERRY AWARD
NOMINATIONS INVITED

The History Council of NSW invites nominations for the inaugural John
Ferry Award. The award honours the memory of John Ferry (1949 - 2004),
an exemplary teacher and community historian who played a major role in
practising and encouraging quality local studies during his career as a
school-teacher, and then as lecturer and senior lecturer at the Armidale
College of Advanced Education and University of New England.

The purpose of this award is to recognise outstanding local and
community histories within New South Wales. The winner will receive a
certificate and a cash prize of $500.

Entries should be essays or papers between 5,000 and 10,000 words,
substantially completed within the last twelve months. The inaugural
prize will be awarded in Armidale at the Russell Ward Lecture in
September 2007.

The deadline for nominations is 31 July 2007. Full details about
eligibility, conditions and nomination forms are available on the
History Council website: www.historycouncilnsw.org.au
