The Inclusive Museum Conference 2008 The first International Conference on the Inclusive Museum is to be held at the National Museum of Ethnology <http://www.rmv.nl/index.aspx?lang=en> , Leiden, the Netherlands, 8-11 June 2008. At this time of fundamental social change, what is the role of the museum, both as a creature of that change, and perhaps also as an agent of change? The International Conference on the Inclusive Museum <http://museum-conference.com/> and The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum <http://ijz.cgpublisher.com/> are places where museum practitioners, researchers, thinkers and teachers can engage in discussion on the historic character and future shape of the museum. The key question of the Conference and the Journal: How can the institution of the museum become more inclusive? This and many other questions concerning the idea of 'heritage' and 'inclusivity' will be the main discussion themes of the conference. What are the meanings of community and custodianship for museums? How are social and cultural intangibles represented in museum, and how do the politics of heritage (national, regional, ethnic and diasporic identities) affect museums and other cultural institutions in different parts of the world? Other issues addressed include: * Interrogating 'The Collection' <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/themes.html#th2> * Museums as Knowledge Makers and Custodians <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/themes.html#th3> * Pedagogy of the Museum <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/themes.html#th4> * The Virtual Museum <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/themes.html#th5> * Museum Business <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/themes.html#th6> Main speakers include some of the leading thinkers in museum studies and leading practitioners, as well as numerous paper, colloquium and workshop presentations. Participants are welcome to submit a presentation proposal <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/proposal_entry_intro> either for a 30-minute paper <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/presentation_types_descriptions.html#30> , 60-minute workshop <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/presentation_types_descriptions.html#60> , jointly presented 90-minute colloquium <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/presentation_types_descriptions.html#90> session or a virtual session. Parallel sessions are loosely grouped into streams <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/streams.html> reflecting different perspectives or disciplines. Each stream also has its own talking circle <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/talking_circles.html> , a forum for focused discussion of issues. Presenters may choose to submit written papers to The International Journal of the Inclusive Museum <http://ijz.cgpublisher.com/> , a fully refereed academic Journal. Virtual participants <http://z08.cgpublisher.com/presentation_types_descriptions.html#00> also have the option to submit papers for consideration by the Journal. All registered Conference participants receive a complimentary online subscription to the Journal when registration is finalised. This subscription is valid until one year after the Conference end date. If you would like to know more about this Conference, bookmark the Inclusive Museum Conference <http://www.museum-conference.com/> site and return for further information ─ the site is regularly updated.
