Hey Bill,

I'm writing from Israel. Since the country is so small you could drive from the uppermost northern point to the southernmost point in 15 hours and stop for lunch while you're at it distances aren't much of a problem. When I was in high-school there were at least three trips during the year. One was a walking tour of a part of the land, usually a nature reservation, and was around three days long. One was a museum or educational related activity that was a day long affair. And, since I went to an Art-High School, the third activity was an Art Camp that lasted for a few days as well.

There are two very unique things in Israeli Education at the High-School level. The first is the Holocaust Education segment that usually lasts for a year at the last year of high-school and ends with the best students going to Poland and Germany to visit the Historical Sites and meet with Polish and German Historians and teachers as well as Jewish community Leaders still residing in those countries. The other is a Pre-Military Workshop that most schools have to address issues around Army service. Usually with an Army representative to adress some of the questions. (It's mandatory you know and very few young people grow up dreaming about serving in the army).

I'd be happy to get you some more info if needed.
