THE 2006 DIRECTORS FORUM

Times of Change: New Developments

Museums and galleries in Australia often operate under a climate of
major change. This seminar will showcase a selection of state and
national museums and galleries that are undergoing significant
operational or physical change and how change is being managed. 

Chaired by Andrea Stretton, arts and literary journalist, this is a rare
opportunity to listen to some of Australia's foremost museum and gallery
professionals discuss their current challenges, and look at how each is
learning to adapt to their changing environment.  

Panellists are:

*	Dr Kevin Fewster, Director, Powerhouse Museum 
*	Frank Howarth, Director, Australian Museum 
*	Nick Mitzevich, Director, Newcastle Region Art Gallery 
*	Andrew Sayers, Director, National Portrait Gallery 
*	Fiona Winning, Director, Performance Space 
*	Louise Douglas, General Manager - Audience and Programs, 
	National Museum of Australia

Amongst the issues discussed the forum will explore the recent
challenging changes that each Director has been confronted with, museum
and gallery positioning within Australia's changing cultural landscape
and the changing perceptions of museums and galleries in addition to
looking at the revitalisation of museum and gallery spaces. 

The audience can expect an afternoon of strong opinions, hard hitting
stories and lively debate in which they will be asked to participate at
least as much as the panel.
