Please find below details of two current vacancies with the National
Museum of Australia.
 
 

Title                Associate Registrar, Documentation, Archives and
Photography
Level               Executive Level 1 - Ongoing           
Salary             $76,223 to $82,321 per annum plus superannuation.
 
Role
The Registration Section at the National Museum of Australia has the
responsibility for a diverse range of duties related to the physical,
intellectual and legal control of the Museum’s collections and archives,
including loans, transport, storage, collection documentation, archives,
photography and the management of all exhibition related installation,
de-installation and maintenance.
As Associate Registrar, Documentation, Archives and Photography, you
will be part of the larger Registration section and have responsibility,
under general direction, for the Registration functions outlined below.
·         Plan and manage the daily operations of the Documentation,
Archives and Photography Teams as well as supervise collection
documentation and provide sound advice on acquisition and disposal of
Museum objects to current museum standards.
·         Plan, prioritise and review strategies and timetables for
accessioning into the Museum’s collections including provision of
guidelines, statistics and reports, and setting and monitoring targets.
·        Ensure established objectives are managed within the
Documentation Archives and Photography Teams in consideration of overall
Registration priorities, including the provision of internal and
external access to collection materials.
·         Manage Registration’s involvement in the development,
implementation and review of collection data standards and documentation
processes and procedures.
·         Support the Manager Registration with reporting, budget
administration and high level tasks as required.

Title                Paper Conservator
Level               APS 5 - Ongoing                   
Salary             $55,179 to $58,511 per annum plus superannuation.
 
Role
The Conservation Section is responsible for the preservation and
maintenance of the National Historical Collection. This includes the
preparation of objects required for exhibition and loan purposes, and
the preservation and care of objects in storage at the Mitchell sites.
The section also participates in a range of collection management and
development activities, and conducts a scientific research program into
collection conservation needs. The section is structured to deliver
services across the main specialist areas of Object, Preventive, Paper,
Textiles and Technology.
 
The Paper Conservator will be required to operate within the wider
paper and textiles conservation group on projects including maintenance
of the National Historical Collection (NHC), preparation of objects for
display in the Museum’s permanent galleries, meeting the Museum’s
temporary exhibitions schedule and participation in conservation
research relevant to the needs of the Museum’s collection.  They will be
primarily responsible for the treatment, preservation and preparation
for display of paper based objects using established and new
conservation techniques and procedures that take into account community
expectations about the Museum’s custodianship of the NHC.
