Loans of objects, artworks, specimens and taonga are an essential part of the business of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. Te Papa is committed to lending its collection items to non-profit organisations for public exhibition as a means to increase access to its collections. Te Papa borrows for exhibition from almost anybody as a means of enhancing the visitor experience. Te Papa has a very active loans programme, lending and borrowing approximately three thousand items every year. Every loan offers a prime opportunity for building relationships and advancing knowledge. The central Loans Team maintains consistent standards and a consistent 'voice' and point of contact for borrowers and lenders in their liaison with Te Papa. Te Papa is looking for a Loans Officer- Bicultural to join the team. You will have an understanding and appreciation of contracts. You will utilise your facilitation and negotiation skills to bring together and effectively get results from a broad range of staff across the organisation. You will use these skills, combined with tact and diplomacy, to achieve the best outcome for both Te Papa and the other party involved in the loan transaction. You will be expected to be actively working with 50 to 100 loan transactions at any one time. You will be able to demonstrate that you are highly organised and methodical in your work habits. Your computer literacy and knowledge of office software packages will benefit you when managing projects and meeting deadlines. You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and experience working in a museum, gallery, library or similar organisation. You will also bring sound bicultural capability to support and mentor the Loans Team. To do this you will be competent in written and verbal Te Reo and will have a good understanding of tikanga concepts and practice, particularly as they relate to the management of taonga.
