Associate Registrar, Loans, Exhibitions and Storage
Executive Level 1 – Ongoing
Salary from $76,223 to $82,321 plus superannuation
 
Role
The Collections and Content Division of the National Museum of
Australia is responsible for the delivery of a range of functions which
are core to the Museum’s operations. These include:exhibition content
development and maintenance
development and maintenance of the museum’s collection
collection documentation and digitisation

 
Within this division, the Registration Section has specific
responsibility for a diverse range of duties related to the physical,
intellectual and legal control of the Museum’s collections. These
include the management of inward and outward loans, transport and
storage logistics, collection documentation, archives and access,
photographic services and exhibition installation, de-installation and
maintenance.
As Associate Registrar, Loans, Exhibitions and Storage you will be part
of the larger Registration section and have responsibility, under
general direction, for the functions outlined below.
·         Plan and manage the daily operations of the Registration
teams responsible for the loan, transport, exhibition and secure storage
and physical control of Museum objects to current museum standards.
·         Plan, prioritise and review strategies and timetables for
loan negotiations, exhibition and storage projects and logistics
including provision of statistics and reports, and setting and
monitoring targets when applicable.
·        Ensure established work plans and objectives are managed in
consideration of both overall Registration Section priorities and wider
Museum strategic priorities and goals. Represent the Registration
Section at planning and project meetings as appropriate.
·         Manage Registration’s business relationships with industry
providers such as transport agents, valuers and specialist packing and
exhibition mount construction and installation staff.
·         Support the Manager Registration with business planning,
budget formulation, tracking and analysis, program and performance
reporting; contribute to the development of policies and procedures and
other high level tasks as required.
 
Additional Information
As Registration work involves frequent travel between the Repositories
at Mitchell and the Museum on Acton Peninsular, a current driver’s
licence is desirable.
Registration positions involve working with museum objects and
applicants for this position are reminded that it may require physical
handling and lifting and working with objects at heights.
