Museum Collections Officer (2 positions) P/T University Museums Reference No. 123991 Sydney University Museums is comprised of three individual museums; the Nicholson Museum, Macleay Museum and the University Art Gallery. The collections cover natural history, ethnography, historic photographs, science, visual arts and antiquities. Sydney University Museums is currently seeking two proactive and organised Museum Collections Officers to assist in the documentation, transportation and location of the collections, and installation of displays. These are hands-on roles that will see you work across all three Museums, in particular with the University Art Collection. Essential for this role will be substantial experience within a museum or art gallery and a background in the recording of object locations along with good level of physical fitness, as you will document, install and stocktake the collections, and assist with the storage, packing, transport and location control of items. In addition, you will assist in the preparation, fabrication and installation of exhibitions and displays throughout the University, as well as maintain collections to ensure their preservation. To succeed, you will have substantial skills in museum practices and experience in the identification, handling, movement and packing of museum and art gallery objects. You will need to be familiar with relevant museum tools and techniques, specifically for exhibition installation (wall preparation and gallery lighting) and demonstrated strong word processing, database and written and verbal communication skills. A diploma or degree in a relevant discipline will be essential, as will a current driver's licence and significant experience dealing with contractors. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. Remuneration package: up to $53,912 - $56,987 p.a. pro rata (which includes a base salary Level 4 $47,397 - $50,100 p.a. pro rata, leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
