KickArts Curator/Program Manager This is a senior position that will lead KickArts creative programs and initiate new and exciting opportunities for artists. At this major stage of growth and development of KickArts Contemporary Arts is looking for a creative individual that can work across traditional and contemporary artforms and lead our program into a new era. 2. Key Responsibilities The Senior Curator/Program Manager is responsible for: · Working with the Director to develop all creative programs and assisting to develop the KickArts Printmaking Studio. · Curating dynamic and innovative exhibitions for the general program and touring. · Installation of all exhibitions. · The supervision of the Program Officer, casual staff and volunteers. · Initiating, developing and overseeing specific events, publications, talks and other public and education programs associated with the KickArts creative programs. · Developing new and creative ways of involving new audiences with our program. · Managing KickArts¹s marketing and promotional activities. Working with the Communications Officer to produce, including but not limited to, email announcements, constant monitoring and updates to the website and online shop, exhibition invitations, room brochures, catalogues, membership forms, KickArts Shop promotional materials, signage, advertisements for print media, merchandise and KickArts stationery, to ensure that the programs reach a wide range of formal and informal groups and visitors · Providing effective project management across all areas of KickArts and external touring exhibitions. · Writing and editing exhibition catalogues, gallery brochures, introductory wall texts and other interpretative material, providing appropriate contextual information and developing resources for visitors with each project. Coordinating the publication of exhibition catalogues, from commissioning of writers to liaison with designers, editors and photographers; plus sourcing of images and coordination of copyright clearances. Providing written and spoken project briefs with sufficient lead-time for Sponsorship and Marketing project development. · Ensuring all staff have sufficient training and are well-informed of due process during development and implementation of all program delivery areas, including presenting gallery tours and inducting front of house staff and casual gallery assistants about KickArts¹s exhibitions and associated programs. · Monitoring and controlling specific project budgets in liaison with the Director. Showing sensitivity and skill while working in a not-for-profit organisation with limited budgets and where a diverse range of activities is required. · Assisting in the preparation of funding bids for exhibitions and other activities through applications to appropriate funding bodies in Australia and overseas, as well as agencies and selected private foundations. Contributing to the development of fundraising campaigns for specific programs. · Undertaking public speaking on KickArts exhibitions to media, corporate sponsors, private patrons, art students, KickArts Patrons and Members, visitors and the general public. · Liaising with key cultural organisations, galleries, artists and curators and keep informed about contemporary art practice. Working with a range of regional, remote and nationally based organisations - some travel will be essential. · Ensuring appropriate documentation, reporting and evaluation of exhibitions and other projects. · Submitting funding proposals to grant funding bodies, trusts and sponsors to support programs. · The technical and building maintenance, structural matters and Operational Safety and Health (OSH) issues of areas of the building leased by KickArts. · Managing the technical requirements of KickArts including supervising and training the installation crew, technical and production support throughout KickArts¹s visual and performance art programs. · Overseeing the KickArts archive including all documentation of all events. · Representing KickArts at relevant industry meetings, events, conferences and functions. · Being organised and flexible in order to manage ongoing projects and competing deadlines, routine tasks as well as special activities. · Contributing to the development and implementation of Strategic, Business and Operational Plans · Carrying out other duties within their skill range as determined by the Director. · 3. Skills and Experience Required 1. A demonstrated commitment to the presentation and promotion of contemporary art including professional integrity and an understanding of the many ways in which contemporary culture can add value to an overall community experience. 1. A demonstrated ability to creatively and imaginatively shape curatorial concepts and deliver an annual program of activities through excellent project management skills including the research, development, implementation and maintenance of exhibitions and the ability to manage and prioritise workload, deliver to deadlines and the financial management and preparation of annual and individual project budgets, including presentation, interpretation and analysis of monthly financial reports. 1. A demonstrated minimum of 3 years curatorial experience within a contemporary cultural organisation. 1. Tertiary qualifications, in visual art or fine art/art history or Indigenous art, that includes working with remote Indigenous artists and urban contemporary artists and experience with a contemporary art collection through exhibition and acquisition. 1. A demonstrated knowledge of Australian and international contemporary art and an understanding of the needs of artists and of issues surrounding the public presentation of contemporary art. 1. A demonstrated above average competency with computer hardware and software especially Microsoft Office Suite, FileMaker Pro 9, Adobe and evidence of experience working with audio-visual and multimedia presentation technology. 1. Demonstrated exemplary management communication skills, visual, written and verbal, including public presentation skills, with the ability to prepare and present reports, proposals and supervise and motivate staff in the delivery of innovative and excellent museum practice. 1. Evidence of being a visionary leader and providing support and motivation to artists and other supporters of the organisation with the ability to develop and foster sustainable high-level contacts and develop long-term industry partners and relationships with artists, individuals and galleries, nationally and internationally. 1. Demonstrated experience in communication design and publications as a writer and designer of interpretative texts and visual information on contemporary culture and works of art. Along with a proven knowledge of, and interest in engaging with, a diverse range of audiences with the ability to research and publish essays and articles which contribute to critical debate within the industry. 1. Demonstrated ability to work closely with a Board Of Directors and to participate in and provide guidance on strategic planning issues appropriate to the organisation. 1. Ability to write grant applications aimed at all levels of government and the corporate and private sectors for revenue support. 4. Key Relationships · Reports to the KickArts Director · Internal liaisons KickArts Board Of Directors, other KickArts staff, Artists in residence, support staff, volunteers and other Centre of Contemporary Arts tenants · External liaisons Artists, patrons to the galleries, program participants, Government, industry and business associates 5. Terms of Employment Accountability Accountable to the Director for duties associated with KickArts and general performance of duties. Overall accountability is to the KickArts Board of Directors. Employment Conditions The position is a full time position. The appointee is subject to the satisfactory completion of a 6-month probation period. The terms and conditions of employment will be outlined in the KickArts Contract of Employment. The successful applicant will be one experienced in all areas of contemporary museum practices and who is able to support the management of a new stage of development for KickArts and who is committed to supporting and promoting local and regional artists both within Australia and overseas. In addition to exemplary communication and office management skills, the successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in working with a variety of established and emerging media and technologies and will understand and articulate the vision of the organisation at all levels of the community and government. Terms Of The Position Position: Full time 38 hours per week, 8.30am to 5pm five days per week, with a 1 hour rest period with some rostering in support of the program generally Responsible To: Director Salary: Between $50,000 and $60,000 depending on experience, plus superannuation in line with current legislation Leave · 4 weeks annual leave · 10 days sick leave · Public holidays independent of annual leave · Eight weeks notice required. 6.
