Blurring the Boundaries: Fashion Design Innovation in Contemporary Knitting Blurring the Boundaries is a cutting edge exhibition at Fairfield city Museum and Gallery celebrating the work of thirty national and international artists and designers who blur the boundaries between art, fashion, craft, design and technology. They have embraced these forms of practice and created a new language of clothes. This exhibition explores fashion by artist and designers who have distinguished themselves in textiles, visual art, jewellery, millinery and metal work. They challenge the traditional art of knitting, tread uncharted terrains and play with the language of clothes. This is a unique exhibition designed to question the ongoing debate of what constitutes the 'art' of dress. This exhibition is about conceptual work. It offers a fresh look at the art of knitting and demonstrates that knitting is a valid art form and capable of stunning diversity. Artists and designers combine old traditions with new technologies and set a precedent in the way the body is dressed. Through their personal visual iconography they have created a new synthesis of fashion which like the body has many layers of meaning. It is about cerebrating the body. In this exhibition art and fashion have been placed in juxtaposition, sometimes in complementary visions, sometimes in unsettling contrasts.
