Law & Order: Helen Hart Strikes a Blow for Women’s Suffrage.

A  Mt Alexander Shire Heritage Festival FREE event. Sponsored by Public
Record Office Victoria

Helen Harris OAM presents the Heritage Festival Address in which she links
the Festival theme of Law and Order with the issue of women’s suffrage. It
commemorates both the centenary of women’s suffrage in Victoria and an
attempt by a pioneer suffragist to horsewhip a local newspaperman in 1886,
which resulted in legal action. Drawing on many years of research using
resources from diverse sources Helen Harris tells this engaging tale of one
woman's battle for rights.
