We have a free talk coming up at the Library focussing on Burqini
swimwear as well as wider issues about Islamic clothing which we thought

The Burqini(tm) swimsuit has revolutionised the way in which many Muslim
women can enjoy the Australian life style of sun and surf while
observing Islamic cultural practices. The innovative Australian design
has also been embraced by non-Muslim women and has made an  impact
worldwide, adding a fascinating episode to the history of bathing
costumes on Australian beaches.

Join Burqini(tm) swimwear designer, Aheda Zanetti, Director of Ahiida
Swimwear and Sports Apparel, Manar Chelebi, author and human rights
advocate and Saara Sabbagh, Director of My Dress, My Image, My Choice an
Islamic fashion touring project in conversation with Clare Williamson,
curator of Victorians on Vacation.

They will discuss the rise and popularity of the Burqini(tm) swimsuit,
and the ways in which Muslim women combine modern and Islamic clothing
in the Australian context.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Victorians on Vacation, on
at the State Library of Victoria until 2 March and then touring to
regional galleries in Victoria 2008-2009.
