MUSEUMS, TOURISM & THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Intercom, the International Management Committee of ICOM presents a
timely conference in Rotorua New Zealand, 24 - 28 November 2008.

In a competitive leisure market, it's welcome news that museums,
galleries and historic sites are the most popular cultural tourist
attraction - for both international and domestic visitors alike (Tourism
Research Australia 2006).

How do museums and galleries capitalise on this interest and respond to
the tourist market, while retaining their integrity for a local
community?

Integrating the perspectives of tourism marketing, audience development,
tourism investment and leisure trends, delegates will explore management
challenges around cultural tourism and delivering a quality visitor
experience. The conference will include international speakers,
presentations and workshops, along with visits to key cultural tourism
offerings in the Rotorua area and beyond.
