Sharing learning: A FREE networking session on museum/gallery education
initiatives

Interested in meeting other museum, gallery or library staff involved in
education and public program initiatives? Take the opportunity to share
what's working for your organisation, the positive strategies that you have
discovered and to bring along any burning questions you may have about
education initiatives in museums or galleries.  See a range of learning
resources including the Resource kit for Queensland Schools based on the
collection of Gold Coast City Art Gallery and a range of Queensland Museum¹s
object based learning kits.
 
The event will begin with presentations from two invited speakers and
continue with opportunities for participants to have their 5 minutes to
share education initiatives for schools and other audiences.
 
Followed by wine and nibbles, this will be a great opportunity to meet
others and to grow your network.

Invited speakers: 

Virginia Rigney, Curator, Public Programs, Gold Coast City Art Gallery will
be speaking on developing a resource kit for Queensland schools that relates
work from the collection of Gold Coast City Art Gallery directly to the
school curriculum
 
Virginia Rigney manages a diverse education program and is also involved in
curating exhibitions at the Gold Coast City Art Gallery. She previously held
curatorial positions at the Powerhouse Museum through which she also
developed an exhibition of Australian contemporary fashion and design
developed at for the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She then worked
at the Glasgow Museums in Scotland where she became Curator of Art and
managed the Contemporary Art programme during the city¹s yearlong festival
European City of Culture 1990.

 
David Milne, Manager, Strategic Learning Team, Queensland Museum will be
highlighting some of the student activities and teacher guidelines that
underpin the GAMAA award winning Journey of Understanding: Refugee and
Cultural Diversity education kit.  The kit has been designed to instil
empathy for borrowers about refugee issues and to further multicultural
awareness.
 
David Milne¹s responsibilities at the Queensland Museum include leading
several different teams within Regional Services. These include the
Education Queensland seconded teachers, the Loans Service at Hendra, and the
travelling Biobus Biotechnology Project. David is also developing a lifelong
learning strategy across the QM campuses. He is an experienced international
educator and has held posts as an international school principal, an
education consultant and a lecturer at the University of Queensland.
