LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER!
Quality Public Programs - Beyond Visitor Numbers Seminar, Brisbane
Monday 19 November 2-5pm

Quality Public Programs - Beyond Visitor Numbers is a remarkable
opportunity to explore strategies to attract diverse museum and gallery
audiences. The seminar will challenge us to think beyond counting heads to
more complex questions about the quality of the visitor¹s museum and gallery
experiences.

Can digital technologies engender a more intimate, individualised and
responsive museum experience? How should visitors learn to look at art? Is
aesthetic education the answer to revealing the wonders of art? Speakers and
respondents will approach these and other stimulating questions from diverse
perspectives.

Keynote speaker Lauren Parker, Head of Contemporary Programmes, Victoria
and Albert Museum (V&A) will speak on Interplay: Dialogues between museum
spaces and museum visitors, an examination of her exhibitions Shhh... Sounds
in Spaces (2004) and Touch Me: Design and Sensations (2005) as two different
examples of using technology to actively engage museum visitors with objects
and architectural spaces within the V&A.

Another keynote speaker is Associate Professor John Armstrong from the
Philosophy Department, University of Melbourne. John researches aesthetics
and the philosophy of emotions and is currently working with Dr Damon Young
on an ARC Linkage Project Aesthetic Education and Public Galleries.

The seminar is presented by Museum & Gallery Services Queensland in
partnership with The University of Queensland Art Museum and The University
of Queensland's Museum Studies program (School of English, Media Studies and
