King Power: Designing Masculinities Symposium is presented by the RMIT
Fashion Program and the Frances Burke Centre in collaboration with RMIT
Gallery. The two day Symposium will address the expression of
masculinity through notions of style, identity and appearance. Papers
and registrations are invited from those engaged in the fields of
design, cinema studies, cultural studies, media, history, performance
studies, fine art, philosophy and theory. King Power will feature
presentations by individuals and panel members from the international
practitioner and academic community. Possible topics may include but are
not limited to:

Dressing the male / Superheroes / Beauty / Age / The Closet / Image /
Body / Rites of Passage / Performance / Tailor / Making / Kings 

Keynote Presenter - Shaun Cole 

King Power Symposium is pleased to introduce keynote speaker, Shaun
Cole, freelance curator, writer and lecturer, currently based at Queen
Mary, University of London, and an Associate Lecturer (BA Fashion
Promotion), London College of Fashion. Cole was formerly Head of
Contemporary Programmes at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Living Elvis Exhibition 

This Symposium coincides with the exhibition Living Elvis, opening 16
August 2007, presented by RMIT Gallery, curated by Peter Barnes and
Suzanne Davies. Delegates will be invited to the exhibition which
explores the cultural myths of Elvis Presley as reflected in the visual
arts.
