KING POWER - Designing Masculinities Symposium
16 August - 18 August 2007

School of Architecture + Design, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia

Acceptance advised: Friday 25 May 2007 
Full Paper due: Friday 29 June 2007 
Referee reports advised: Monday 16 July 2007

King Power Symposium: Thursday 16 - Friday 17 August 2007

The KING POWER: Designing Masculinities Symposium, 16 August - 18
August 2007, addresses the expression of masculinity through notions of
style, identity and appearance. Papers are invited from those engaged in
the fields of design, cinema studies, cultural studies, media, history,
performance studies, fine art, philosophy and theory.

Possible topics may include but are not limited to:

Dressing the male / Body / Superheroes / Rites of Passage / Beauty /
Performance / Age / Tailor / The Closet / Making / Image / Kings 
 
Full papers of no more than 5000 words will be required for peer review
by Friday 29 June. Peer reviewing will be in accordance with the
Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST)
guidelines. Authors of recommended papers will present their paper in a
20 minute presentation (5 minutes question time) at the King Power
Symposium on 16 or 17 August 2007 at RMIT University (city campus).
Papers will be published in the second issue of The Rack Fashion
Research Journal (RMIT) due 2008 (see link from
View Attachment), or on the KING POWER: Designing
Masculinities Symposium (see link from View Attachment) or
related website. 

Submission Guidelines for Individual papers 

Email submissions by Monday 21 May 2007 to: kaye.ashton at rmit.edu.au 
In Subject field insert: 'KING POWER ABSTRACT', Author's family name,
first name initial (Example: KING POWER ABSTRACT, Smith,T.) 

In the body of the email include (use 12 point font size):
- Title of the Abstract
- Abstract of up to 150 words
- A biography of no more than 100 words
- Full author/s contact details 

* Please specify whether you would require your paper to be peer
reviewed. 

Submission Guidelines for Panel presentations 
Submissions for panel presentations are invited. Three person panels
plus convenor (3 x 20 minute paper with 15 minutes for
questions/discussion) are preferred, however, four person panels plus
convenor will be considered (4 x 20 minute papers with 20 minutes for
questions/discussion). Prior to lodging the panel submission, ensure
that the requisite number of colleagues have been secured and that
panelists have not submitted an individual paper or have agreed to be in
another panel.

In Subject field insert: 'KING POWER PANEL ABSTRACT', Convenor's family
name, first name initial. (Example: KING POWER PANEL ABSTRACT, Smith,T.)


In the body of the email include (use 12 point font size): 
- Title of the Abstract
- Name of convenor
- Name of each author  
- One abstract of up to 150 words which communicates the overarching
theme addressed by the panel; 
- A biography of no more than 100 words for each member of the panel; 
- Abstracts of up to 150 words for each member of the panel including
the convenor. 

* Please specify whether you would require your paper to be peer
reviewed.
