What about the future?

Looking for professional development opportunities?

One thing we know about working in museums and galleries, there is no
straightforward way to getting where you want to go. The paths are many and
varied.

At this event there will be opportunities to:

*	Talk to people in the industry - find out how they got where they
are, about the study and career paths they have chosen, and the futures they
see for themselves working in the industry. Speak to marketing, education,
visual arts, collections management, curatorial, conservation and natural
sciences professionals from museums and galleries in one-on-one 'speed
dating' sessions.

*	Hear from education and training providers about study options for
getting started in museum practice and the learning pathways for continuous
improvement of your professional skills. Speakers include Gillian Ridsdale,
Co-Convenor of the University of Queensland Museum Studies Program, and
Denise Neville, Central Queensland Institute of TAFE.

*	Find out about a special professional development opportunity
available to those in the industry. Peter Blondell, Department of Premier
and Cabinet, will speak about the Queensland-Smithsonian Fellowship Program.
The Program is a unique opportunity for Queenslanders to undertake research
at the world's largest museum complex and research organisation, the
Smithsonian Institution. Fellowships are available to people working in a
variety of areas including museum practice, education and research; arts,
design and crafts; anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and indigenous and
cross-cultural studies. You will also hear from museum professionals who
have been awarded these fellowships to enhance their professional experience
and knowledge.

RSVP by Tuesday 31 July to Kerri Laidlaw, Training and Professional
Development Co-ordinator, M&GSQ, at email kerri.laidlaw at magsq.com.au or
