Free Workshop

Working with Photographs and Negatives

 

 Almost all collecting organisations have photographs of some sort,
ranging from print and negative collections to digital collections .
These photographs provide continuous opportunities for reflection on
society. Photographs and negatives are fragile objects requiring
particular care to ensure their long-term preservation and digital
photographs have their own unique problems and issues.

Museums Australia (Victoria) are offering a workshop designed to assist
custodians of photographic collections. This workshops is part of our
support to communities in their efforts to preserve and interpret their
collections.  The workshop will be a great opportunity to get together
with other collection carers from your loca area.  We will cover  the
common causes of deterioration and the ways in which the care of
Photographs and Negatives  differs from other collection items. We will
also focus attention on best practice in collecting and displaying
photographs.  The workshop will be conducted by Anne Thoday Manager,
Training and Professional Development and Euan McGillivray, Manager,
Community Collections Training.
