November 13-16, 2008
Nashville, Tennessee

I am seeking proposals for an interdisciplinary panel that examines
paper as a global medium of modernism.  How did the (venerable,
changing, ubiquitous) medium shape modernist experiment? Recycled and
scrapped, gilded and pulp, material of design and bureaucratic function
-- how does thinking about paper (as material, commodity, or object of
representation) alter our understanding of modernism¹s media and its
mediated globalism?
