Duchamp and the Artists' Book
Michael Wardell

An introduction to the work of Marcel Duchamp, through examination of the 
iconic work, La Boite-en-Valaise (the Box in the Suitcase) 1936-41. This 
work essentially a retrospective in miniature reproductions, covers all 
the conceptual innovations of Duchamp's previous work. La Boite-en-Valaise 
introduced a new form of self-publishing that would influence the 
subsequent development and proliferation of artists' books and multiples.

Michael Wardell is the Director of Arstpace Mackay, with 30 years 
experience working in Australian galleries. Marcel Duchamp was the subject 
of Michael's fist public lecture, held at ANU, Canberra in 1981.

Artists' Books in Brisbane (The secret life of a frustrated art dealer)
Noreen Graham

Grahame Galleries opened its doors in 1987. The Gallery houses the Centre 
for the Artist Book, a collection of soem 550 artists' books. In this talk 
we stroll through a gallery whose focus in on prints and artists' books.

Noreen Graham is an art dealer and artist who specialises in publishing 
prints, specialist catalogues and artists' books.

Manuscripts from the Abbey Museum
Edith Cuffe

In this presentation Edith will talk about the history and development of 
the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology. Edith will especially focus on 
the rermarkable collection of medieval and later manuscripts and books in 
teh collection, and in particular , the 'Aysgarth  Collection'. 

Edith Cuffe is the Chief Executive Oficer of the Abbey Museum of Art and 
Archaeology and has been Coordinator of the Abbey Medieval Tournament.

Bookings for the Lecture Series are essential. Cost is $10 per lecture or 
$40 for teh entire series. Call Artspace Mackay on 07 4957 1722.

Artspace Mackay will remain open on Wednesday evenings to coincide with 
the Lecture Series.
